About: In the high hills of Santee, where the sandhills of the Midlands region meet the coastal plain region, is Poinsett State Park. The park has hiking and biking trails. There is a ten-acre lake and the park also offers campsites, a fishing pond, a coquina bathhouse built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, pre-revolutionary grist mill ruins, and rustic cabins.
Called the "mountains of the midlands," this mixed ecosystem yields a high degree of biodiversity and some of the most unique natural sightings in the park system, especially along the Palmetto trail which also winds through the Manchester State Forest.
Location: From exit 119 on I95 follow Highway 261 west toward Paxville. After 19.2 miles turn left to Poinsett Park Road (SR 63). In 1.7 miles is the entrance to the park. follow the road for another 1.1 miles to reach the park office.
Hours: Daily 9:00 am to 6:00 pm during winter and 9:00 am to 9:00 pm during summer.
