About: The Francis Beidler Forest is an Audubon wildlife sanctuary in Four Holes Swamp, a blackwater creek system. It consists of over 18,000 acres of mainly bald cypress and tupelo gum hardwood forest and swamp with approximately 1,800 acres of old-growth forest. There are two trails, an old growth virgin forest cypress tupelo swamp boardwalk and the grassland-woodland trail. Pets and bikes are not allowed on either trail.
About: Santee National Wildlife Refuge, superimposed on the lands and waters of the 110,600-acre Lake Marion reservoir, protects over 15,000 acres of public lands in four units, Bluff, Dingle Pond, Pine Island and Cuddo. The refuge benefits an abundance of wildlife species in this rich ecosystem of forests, wetlands, fields and open water. Nearly 40 miles of maintained trails can be found on the refuge. Over 10 miles are for hiking and 13 miles for both hiking and bicycling. The 7.5 mile auto tour route offers opportunities for seeing many wildlife species and beautiful landscape views. Culturally significant is the protection of a 1200-year old Native American site, the historic Santee Indian mound which was used as a British Garrison during the Revolutionary War.
About: The Francis Marion National Forest is one of two forests in South Carolina that are managed together by the United States Forest Service, the other being the Sumter National Forest.The Francis Marion National Forest is 263,904 acres. The forest is a multiple use area. Recreation opportunities include campsites, rifle ranges, boat ramps, and several trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, as well as off-road motorcycling and atv riding specifically at the Wambaw Cycle Trailhead. The Forest Service also administers wilderness areas, experimental forests, timber production, and protection and management of wildlife and the watershed.
About: The Patriots Point Trail provides picturesque opportunities for hiking, biking, and bird watching. Features of the trail include a bird watching tower and a harbor deck providing an incredible panoramic view of the Harbor.
About: Folly Island is a barrier island in the Atlantic Ocean near Charleston, South Carolina. It is one of the Sea Islands and is within the boundaries of Charleston County, South Carolina. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Folly River, visitors enjoy six miles of wide beaches, surfing, fishing, biking, kayaking, boating, eco-tours, and sea wildlife including several endangered species.
