About: the amenities of the park are open meadows; saltwater fishing and crabbing; playground; seasonal spray play fountain; miles of paved trails for walking, biking, and skating; picnic spots with tables and grills; dog park; sand volleyball court; campground with 124 sites and 10 vacation cottages along the Stono River marsh; climbing wall; seasonal waterpark; disc golf course; bicycle, pedal boat, stand up paddleboard, and kayak rentals; and covered shelters and meeting and reception facility rentals.
There are four miles of paved trails and one mile of unpaved trails. Saltwater fishing and crabbing is accessible from the dock on the tidal creek. There is a gravel parking lot at the dog park entrance.
Location: From Charleston drive west on US 17 and turn left on SC 171 south (Folly Road). Drive approximately 1 mile and turn right onto SC 700. Drive 1.5 miles and turn left onto Riverland Drive. Drive 1.7 miles and turn right at the James Island County Park sign. The entrance gate is .5 mile straight ahead.
Hours: January - April: 8 a.m. - Sunset, May - August: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., September & October: 8 a.m. - Sunset, November-December: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. There are admission fees and special events. Call Park & Program Services at 843-795-4386 for details.
